One of the biggest frustrations in previous seasons was how summoning materials worked. Players often had to invest rare materials into Diablo 4 Gold boss fights without knowing whether they'd get good loot.
Now, instead of using summoning materials to summon bosses, players will collect ingredients and craft Lair Keys, which are then used to unlock the Boss Hoard at the end of the battle.
Each boss has a specific crafting material associated with them, which is used to create Lair Keys:
Varshan: Malignant Heart
Grigoire: Living Steel
Beast in the Ice: Distilled Fear
Lord Zir: Exquisite Blood
Urivar: Judicator's Mask
Duriel: Shard of Agony
Andariel: Pin-Cushioned Doll
Harbinger of Hatred: Abhorrent Hearts
Belial, Lord of Lies: Betrayer's Husk
Once a boss is defeated, any player with a Lair Key can unlock the Boss Hoard and claim their rewards. This eliminates the issue of players stealing loot or refusing to contribute to summon costs.
How Loot Distribution Works Now
The loot system has also been reworked to increase fairness and improve rewards. Here's how it works:
The first Unique item drop is guaranteed to come from that boss's loot table.
Additional Unique drops have a 50% chance to buy duriel mats be from the general Unique pool.
Grouping with others increases loot chances, as each additional party member adds a 33% chance for an extra Unique drop from the boss's pool.
One small change is that Torment IV bosses will now drop five Uniques instead of six, slightly reducing overall rewards but maintaining balance.
