 Black Ops' most random deaths aren’t really random.

They're the predictable mathematic outcomes of 3 habits we repeat throughout every bo7 bot lobbies match - often without us even noticing. The good new? Once we find and fix these issues, gunfights will feel faster, cleaner and significantly less stressing.


 


 This is the framework we use for reviewing or coaching our own game. The goal of the exercise is simple: don't rush without cover. Increase your crosshair positioning and make you movement more difficult to read. Each habit will be explained, along with what happens when you change it.

 This habit will make you think that every opponent is a god of aim. The majority of the times, they do not--you're simply giving them a shot geometry that is as easy as possible.


 


 It looks like this (The Losing Pattern).


 We sprint directly down the middle lanes.


 We cut diagonally in the middles of rooms or halls.


 We challenge a person who is already positioned behind a head glitch without providing any cover.


 


 Why it is that gunfights end in failure


 If you go into a confrontation fully exposed, your opponent will have full control. Because you are the largest target, they will notice you first. They are anchored and don't move much. In the meantime, your response window is shrinking rapidly: You must now identify your target, aim and correct your recoil while they've already begun shooting.


 

 


 


 Even if you're a good shooter, you start each fight with a disadvantage that you created.


 


 Wall-to Wall Routing


 We have a simple routine that involves three steps to help us break this habit.


 

 


 


 1. Anchor: Make sure you stop before the lane becomes open.


 2. Scan first: clear the area most likely to contain a danger (windows, head-glitches).


 3. Slide: Never move down the middle. Move along the wall line or an object.

 


 


 If you're caught running across a lane in the middle, immediately choose one side of it and stick to it (a brick wall, a pile of boxes, a frame of a door). You don't want to be there forever. Just long enough for you to get a reduction in the angles.


 


 Practice Drill (5 Mins)


 


 Choose a map and run one route. When you are about enter a lane for the first time, mentally say: "Anchor - Scan- Slide". It is not about speed but rather minimizing the amount of time you are exposed to open air. We use the average life expectancy per person as a measure. This number increases rapidly when you stop donating open lane deaths.
